Legal Services

Our goal is to provide you with legal resources to help you upon your reentry to society. We recognize the process of reentering society is not an easy one, and it can be an expensive one. We looked for the best, and most affordable legal resources in the Muncie/Indianapolis area. We condensed our compilation of resources to the Muncie/Indianapolis area to hopefully provide the widest array of services for the most relevant population we are intending to service.

One doesn’t put much thought into legal services after they have been released. Below there are resources listed to help with services to be able to wipe your record clean and have a fresh start. This could be an essential tool provided to be able to reach your new goals as you re-enter society.

Volunteers of America –

in Indiana and Ohio

https://www.voaohin.org/central-indiana

Non-profit faith-based organization that helps several people rebuild their lives (not just ex-offenders). They have several human service programs and volunteers which connect individuals with housing and healthcare as well as services for addiction.

Project GRACE (Guided Re-entry Assistance and Community Education) works with ex-offenders, helping to remove barriers to have a successful re-entry back into society. They provide legal advice and representation for clients in Central Indiana and Northeast Indiana whose income is below 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

LSPC organizes communities impacted by the criminal justice system and advocates to release incarcerated people, to restore human and civil rights, and to reunify families and communities. They also build public awareness of structural racism in policing, the courts, and the prison system, and advance racial and gender justice in all their work.

with Children

This website details not only the process, but the relevant forms that former incarcerated individuals need throughout the expungement process in Indiana.

Services include finding employment primarily. Services are open to ex-offenders, people recovering from addiction, homeless individuals, and others who need support int securing employment.

Keys To Work Staffing

ZeekBeek is a website put together by the Indiana State Bar Association that an individual or family can use to look up local attorneys in Indiana. Anyone can use this website to search for an attorney involving a criminal case, a family law/custody cases, and so on. I think this website would be very helpful when and individual or family member begins their search for an attorney.

Both of these links are to an organization called Wabash Valley Volunteer Attorneys. The mission of this group is to provide equal access to legal services by having local attorneys volunteer their time and expertise to families or individuals with a low income.

On the 2nd Thursday of Every Month at the Boone County Courthouse, the Wabash Valley Volunteer Attorneys hosts a Free Legal Aid Clinic. Come visit Wabash Valley Volunteer Attorneys and APPLY for Legal Assistance in the Courthouse atrium. This clinic cannot help with criminal matters or fee generating cases. I think this group would be very helpful to individuals who don’t have the financial means to an attorney.

The link below is to an attorney’s website who deals with criminal defense cases, expungement cases, forfeiture cases, and civil rights cases. This service/attorney would be good for individuals who are interested in having their convictions removed, as they offer a money back guarantee in most cases. They also offer a free consultation so it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call.

ACLU of Indiana

https://www.aclu-in.org/

ACLU is an organization that litigates cases involving constitutional and religious rights of prisoners, including prison and jail conditions, specifically in Indiana. I thought this was important to include since it was for Indiana specifically.

Indiana Legal Services â€‹

https://www.indianalegalservices.org/

Indiana Legal Services is a nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income residents throughout the state of Indiana.

Recycle Force

Info@recycleforce.org

Assists with temporary employment while teaching things like character development and job skills. The organization is a non-profit recycling service, and the money they generate from their business goes towards helping ex-offenders. This organization teaches job skills while providing temporary employment ,and recirculates money back towards supporting ex-offenders.

New Leaf

info@newleafnewlife.org

An organization that specifically services Monroe County, Indiana. I thought this is an important resource to include since this organization extends aid to currently incarcerated individuals and also to those who are going through the re-entry process.

Planted Seed Ministries Inc. is a faith based social service agency whose comprehensive goal is to offer to individuals and families-affected by homelessness, poverty, substance use, mental illness, displacement, or incarceration- a continuum of culturally competent services and resources to meet basic human needs, provide protection, support community integration, and transition out of poverty.
